define our future. Responsibilities: Support flight and development
projects as the focal engineer for Electrical, Electronic and
Electromechanical parts specification, selection, part utilization,
and obsolescence management through the use of NASA and industry
standard databases for all part types listed in MSFC-STD-3012.
Participation in the NASA EEE Parts Community of Practice. Failure
analysis of avionics systems, assemblies, and components by
applying both non-destructive and destructive testing methods to
identify root causes of failures. Candidate will be required to
perform the following: - Perform continuous parts obsolescence
monitoring and notification of project impacts of EEE parts using
Silicon Expert, Total Parts Plus, and EPARTS (Electronics Parts
Application, Reporting, and Tracking System) databases. -
Electrical, electronic and electromechanical part selection for
NASA programs. - Maintenance of electrical, electronic and
electromechanical part requirements and specifications. - Support
maintenance the obsolescence module of the Electronics Parts
Application, Reporting, and Tracking System. - Perform obsolescence
analysis of electrical, electronic and electromechanical parts used
throughout the Agency. - Support development of electrical,
electronic and electromechanical part plans, lists, reviews,
testing, and analyses. - Participate in space flight, and
development projects, failure analysis of avionics systems,
assemblies, and components. - Conduct failure analysis of
electrical and electronics systems in a laboratory environment and
development of corresponding failure analysis methodology. -
Determine root cause of failures and/or failure modes. - Assist or
lead investigations into nonconforming products. - Participate in
Electronics Parts Application, Reporting, and Tracking System
meetings. - Participate in electrical, electronic and
electromechanical parts Community of Practice meetings. Degree in
Engineering or related field is required. Degree from an ABET
accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational
requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 9 years
of experience, Masters with at least 13 years of experience, or BS
with at least 15 years of experience. The following skills are
required or desired, as indicated: - Experience in part
specification and selection for all part types listed in
MSFC-STD-3012 is desired. - Experience is required in EEE parts
engineering, including parts obsolescence management, part
utilization, database maintenance and usage is required. -
Knowledge and experience in using obsolescence analysis tools
(software) to provide proactive obsolescence management is
required. - Knowledge of materials science is required. - Knowledge
of electronic components is required. - Knowledge and experience in
failure analysis of avionics with an understanding of the
underlying mechanical/electrical causes for component and/or
assembly failures is desired. - Oral and technical writing skills
are required. Essential Functions Work Environment Office
environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate
and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%).
Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers,
management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA
(<15%) Physical Requirements Requires sitting for extended
periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our
client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also,
requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write
reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to
use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple
buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%). Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax
machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment
(100%). Attendance Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30
p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to
meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the
job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements
for delegating duties during absences are required. Other Essential
Functions The ability to work independently with minimal
supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good
judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be
appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety
