The Engineering and Science Services and Capabilities Augmentation (ESSCA) contract provides engineering, scientific, and technical support to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. Our Dynamics, Loads & Strength team is a high performing group executing challenging tasks for structural analysis of the Space Launch System (SLS) including the Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) functions. Responsibilities: We are searching for a senior engineer to provide Systems Engineering support for the SLS vehicle development. Working independently and in an integrated, collaborative team, your responsibilities would be to: * Coordinate with like discipline experts (within the government and Booster contractor base) at the element and vehicle level to assist the Booster Element Discipline Lead Engineer (EDLE) in remaining cognizant of all vehicle and element activities that impact the Booster development. The task requires support to management efforts including, but not limited to, coordination and representation with respect to meetings, schedule, risk, flight test objectives, technical document review and change requests, issue identification/resolution, leading issue resolution efforts, actions, reporting associates with technical activities in these areas, formal participation in project/program reviews, trade studies, task teams and performance of technical analyses or product development. * Provide Systems engineering and related documentation support to the EDLE for Structures and Environments (StE). * Initiate and maintain extensive contacts with key engineers/scientists and officials of other organizations and companies to resolve SLS related structural dynamics and loads analysis critical issues. * Coordinate the flow of information among vehicle SE&I, booster elements, and the booster element prime contractor personnel. * Provide review and oversight of the booster element prime contractor work delivered to the element for technical acceptability and consistency with element level deliveries. * Coordinate with the booster StE EDLE and prime contractor to supply data required for vehicle-level products. * Support negotiations with the StE Discipline Lead Engineer (DLE), StE EDLE and booster Element Lead System Engineer (ELSE) for delivery of products required to/from the vehicle to/from the booster element. * Assist the StE EDLE in determining required technical support from engineering, including review tracking and verification of completion. * Coordinate weekly booster StE team meetings. Minimum Requirements: * Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 9 years of experience, Masters with at least 13 years of experience, or BS with at least 15 years of experience. * A background in systems engineering. * The ability to deliberate, advise, advocate, and negotiate the resolution of critical issues. * Must be able to understand and work within the Configuration Management and Data Management organizational structure and policies/procedures of the SLS Systems Engineering team. * Experience with a PC and Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. * Personnel are required to be self-motivated, team players familiar with working in a dynamic work environment. * Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and independent problem solving skills. * Proof of U.S. Citizenship required. Other Job Information (if applicable): -- * An understanding of structural analysis. * Knowledge and experience with heritage Space Shuttle Program and Constellation Program hardware systems and subsystems. * Experience in complex space launch vehicle or aircraft structural requirements verification and validation. * Familiarity with MSFC system engineering processes.
